Flower photography

Kari loves taking pictures of flowers. Studying how flowers can look so different when they are very close-up, in fact, is one of the discoveries that launched Kari into nature photography in the first place.

It doesn’t matter if the flowers are roses, orchids, tulips, lilacs, lilies, wildflowers, or tree flowers, like dogwood flowers and magnolias, Kari loves to get in close and capture the “personality” of the flower. The dogwood flowers in “Alight” remind one simultaneously of butterflies alighting on the branches of the dogwood tree as well as beholding a incandescent, benevolent being that seems lit from within. The glowing, ethereal cereus flower in her photo, “The Luminous Queen of the Night Flower” also seems to speak of heavenly visions, but the stoic tulip in, “Revealed” seems uninhibited and exposed in contrast.

Kari abstracts many of these gorgeous flowers in her fine art photos to the point of other-worldliness; the bird of paradise flower in her photo, “Paradise Rising” and the flower of the naked coral tree in, “Red Whisper,” remind one of abstract paintings where there are great splashes of color. Whether you love flower macro photography or abstract art, you will enjoy these beautiful pictures.
